Music

Music is central to cultural life at IST. Emphasis is placed on practical music making developing the skills of performance and composition, as well as the appreciation and understanding of a broad range of musical styles. As a result of regular performances and the presentation of musical creations, students become confident performers who work hard to achieve polished performances and acquire highly developed ensemble playing skills.

 

Music is open to all, with a large proportion of the school population taking part in concerts, large-scale shows and other musical events throughout the year. In the spirit of internationalism students study a range of music from around the world and experience the music first-hand via regular performances and workshops from visiting musicians from different musical cultures.

 

As well as a thorough development of music skills in the classroom, the school has a team of instrumental music teachers who give individual lessons, and students who learn instruments are encouraged to play in school ensembles such as the orchestra, guitar club and choir.
