Years 5 and 6 investigate Montmaurin Roman villa

The children in Years 5 and 6 went to Montamaurin on Thursday 26th April to discover what they could about the Roman villa there, the biggest in France. They honed their investigation skills, looking at the remains of hot, warm and cold baths, underfloor heating and dining rooms, trying to reconstruct what life must have been like in this palatial dwelling. Thanks to Mr Patrick and all the parents who helped make the trip possible! See the photos.

Comme d’habitude, la journée a été bien remplie, nous avons commencé les répétitions pour notre spectacle « Babaka et la cruche sacrée », nous avons dansé, chanté, dessiné nos affiches pour le spectacle et enfin, préparé un magnifique poussin de Pâques !

IB Vernissage

The IB Visual Arts course culminated in a wonderful event last Thursday evening. 9 year 13 students presented their work for the Vernissage to parents, friends and teachers. Visitors enjoyed a relaxed evening where they explored the open display space and were able to discuss the work on show with the artists. This was excellent experience for our students as they are then required to discuss the motivation for their work in an examined interview.

The evening was blessed with beautiful weather and a super turn-out, resulting in a wonderful atmosphere. This was set off brilliantly with music played by fellow students, organized by Mr. Palmer, and exquisite canapés prepared by Mrs. Adie, and served by year 12 volunteers. A truly magical evening of celebration and an IST team effort. Many thanks to all involved

IST Primary was invaded by a crew of dangerous pirates, bringing games, dances and songs along with them!

'So you think you can count?'

[From Mr. Noble]: A huge thank you to all of the students and parents and teachers that took part in the 'So you think you can count?' event last Wednesday. Everybody seemed to have a great time, students presented their problems well and parents participated with great enthusiasm and determination to solve the problems. Un Puits Pour Soroni cake sale

Thank you everyone who made cakes, helped sell cakes and ate cakes for our cake sale for Un Puits Pour Soroni this week! Together we raised €986 for the project!

Well done too to all of Year 5 who enthusiastically planned, researched, advertised and ran the cake sales. Special thanks go to Ella Charalambous in Year 5, who introduced the class to the project.

And thank you to those people who gave individual donations!

Study Visit to The Bemberg Foundation

Many thanks to all the year 10 GCSE Art & Design students and Mr. Palmer who came on the study visit to The Bemberg Foundation last Thursday. The visit was a really enjoyable event for Mrs. Marsden and myself as everyone made excellent use of the time there. Every student was a pleasure to take out of school and was a fantastic ambassador for the school.

Un Puits Pour Soroni

On Tuesday and Thursday this week, children in Year 5 are going to be running a cake + drink sale to raise money to build a well in the village of Soroni in Mali, Africa. The money will go to Un Puits Pour Soroni. Please bring in a euro to pay with.

Here is a slideshow of images of the village and its surroundings. At present villages have to climb down a rocky hill to get to a cistern which is very low on water in the dry years. The Year 5 children have made a commentary of their impressions from the pictures:

Lionel Perez and Florence Tomas took Years 5 and 6 for a great "Snow Day" in the mountains - a day of sledging and walking with raquettes, accompanied by Mrs Steinson, Mr Gregg and Mrs Patrick. See galleries of photos of Year 5 and Year 6.

Coming towards the Pyrenees we couldn't see much snow, but as we wound our way up to the Plateau de Beille we entered another world, covered in fresh snow and still snowing, perfect for sledging and snowshoe walking!

IST Maths in Milan 2012

On Thursday morning, children from Years 1 to 6 worked together in their house team groups as they experienced a hectic yet enjoyable 'measuring morning' as part of their Maths Week. With activities using weights and measures of many different kinds, they estimated, weighed, poured, balanced, compared, calculated and timed their way around Primary, learning and working together as they went.

Our visiting expert judged Olivia and Grace to be the overall winners, although he was suitably stunned by his experiences with Harry, Noah, Robert and Javier (shown here in role as Victorian police chiefs)...!

In spite of the continuing wintry weather the IST will be open tomorrow, Tuesday 7^th February. However, parents are advised not to attempt the journey to school if they are in any doubt about the safety of travelling in poor conditions.
